Going in line with the guidelines of the Central government, the West Bengal government on Monday extended the state-wide lockdown till November 30, keeping the coronavirus cases in mind. 

Issuing fresh guidelines, the state government said that the cinema halls, theatres and multiples will operate with 50% capacity. However, the state did not allow the schools and colleges to reopen this time. In the new order, the state government said that teaching-learning physical assemblies in schools/anganwadis, colleges, universities will continue to be disallowed. 

In the fresh order, the state said that the swimming pools except training of sports will remain  closed. “Social/political/academic/cultural functions will be allowed outside containment zones after obtaining permission from authorities,” the state said.

As per the new rules, in closed spaces, 50% of the hall capacity will be allowed with a ceiling of 200 persons. And in open spaces, the assembly size may be fixed keeping the size of the ground/space in view.


The development comes at a time when the state reported the highest single-day recovery of 4,053 COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of those cured to 3,33,990.

The state also registered 59 more coronavirus deaths since Saturday, pushing the toll to 6,900. The tally rose to 3,77,651 with 3,987 fresh cases in the past 24 hours.
