▴ Health Hazards of Lovely Long Nails
Do you know what onychophilia is? Some people love keeping long nails. The love for long nails is extreme in many people. This extreme love is nothing but a nail fetish. Interestingly, the fetish for long nails is known as onychophilia. However, experts suggest that short trimmed nails are best for health.

Studies indicate that if nails are long, germs like yeast and bacteria get accumulated inside them. Thanks to Covid19, people have started understanding the significance of washing hands, else the harm from long nails was even more in the past. So, if you have long nails you need to be extra careful about hand-wash even when the Covid fear subsides. It’s good that sanitizers for hands have also become very popular.

The health of the entire family is at risk

Long nails no doubt make feminine hands look more beautiful. However, if not kept clean they can create health havoc. Researches have backed up the idea that long nails are platforms of infectious disease that easily enter the human body during eating or cooking. Activities like kneading dough, preparing deep-fried items when the hands are in contact with the batter make long nails prone to causing health hazards to not just a single person but the entire family.

You can opt for artificial nails

If at all, you have a fetish for long nails that you cannot escape, then you can opt for the artificial ones available in the market. However, if worn too long, artificial nails are also prone to get infected by germs as we keep on touching things all the time.

Long nails create other discomforts too

Long nails are difficult to manage and create lots of discomfort e.g. they are prone to get chipped off during certain activities like typing, zipping, etc. The speed of typing gets reduced too if the nails are long enough. There are chances that you might hurt yourself. Eyes are particularly prone to accidental damage by one’s nails. While scratching, the scratch might accidentally get too hard.

Preventive Measures

If your nails are long, spend enough time in nail care. There are many nail care items available in the market. Scrub the underneath of your nail once every day. You can make use of an old toothbrush for this purpose too. Dermatologists do not just treat skin and hair problems but they treat nail problems too. You can visit dermatologists in case of your nail problems. Do everything to ensure healthy nails if at all you have to keep them long because if your nails are not healthy, you would be risking your as well as your family’s health.
