CareStack and innovation in the dental care segment

Dentist Mark Huzyak and Abhilash Krishna have started CareStack, a one-stop solution to all dental office needs. Read to find out more about this startup.

The National Oral Health Programme reveals that the majority of Indians do not consider dental health as serious. The neglect in oral care results in 85 to 90% adults and 80% children suffering from cavities.

Neglect in oral care is also a prime cause of delayed developments and innovations happening in the industry at large. Mark Huzyak, a dentist with over three decades of practising experience found that the dentistry market lacked in many ways.

There was no united system in place that could address the needs of growing group practice. He reached out to a group of software experts led by Abhilash Krishna to design an all-in-one technology to transform the way dentists manage their practice.

In 2015 the duo launched CareStack a state-of-the-art, cloud-based platform that will help dental offices to move away from using multiple fragmented solutions and into a dental software that manages everything from a single platform.

The Florida and Thiruvananthapuram-based platform help clinics to manage appointments, treatments, claims, payments and create analytics. They help practitioners elevate patient relationships. They have a twofold revenue model.

The team makes $650 per dentist office per month. They plan to tap into 7% of the USA’s dental market which is worth around $140 billion in services. CareStack has over 100 dental offices and is adding 50 new offices per month.

Since their inception in 2015, they have secured patient records of over 5 million patients. It has partnered with Darby Dental, Change Healthcare, Dentalxchange, Dosespot, Cardconnect, Deploy Dental and Darkhorse Tech.

They raised $7.6 million from Accel in their Angel round in 2017. A year later, they raised $16 million in their Serie A round. Their Series B round raised $28 million and their Series C round raised $22.5 million led by Delta Dental and Steadview Capital. Other investors are F-Prime and Eight Roads.

They were able to give exit to 12 of their early-stage investors, that too at a 13 times their investment. Exits are an important milestone for startups. It reinforces the faith and confidence of multiple investors in the ecosystem.

Will CareStack help dentists and patients to have better engagement leading to better oral health of the country?
