Delhi to surpass Wuhan in next two weeks, if the present doubling rate of the pandemic remains unchecked

The present doubling rate of COVID-19 is 14 days in the national capital so  as per that estimation Delhi will see over 56,000 Corona cases by the next two weeks, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain mentioned on Monday.

The total  coronavirus cases within the nationwide capital crossed the 28,000-mark with 1,282 recent infections, whereas the deaths climbed to 812 on Sunday.

“The expert committee, which was set up by us earlier, has said that the doubling rate is 14-15 days and currently the city has recorded 28,936 cases in total, so by the end of two weeks, it is estimated to rise to 56,000,” the minister informed reporters.

Barring June 1, when Delhi noticed a spike of 990 circumstances, it has been recording over 1,000 recent circumstances daily from May 28 to June 7, the very worst being 1,513 on June 3.

A total of 51 fatalities have been reported on June 6, the Delhi health department bulletin mentioned on Sunday, including the deaths  between May 8 and June 5.

There are 17,125 new cases, whereas 10,999 individuals have both been cured/discharged or have migrated.

Asked about the unavailability of beds for the patients, Mr Jain mentioned, “Delhi and Mumbai are big metros which are facing a heavy brunt of the virus.”“A lot of foreigners come here, and had flights been closed earlier, the infection would not have spread that much. But given the situation now, when for the past several days, over 1000 cases are being reported every day, the situation is that Delhi people would need more space in hospitals,” he mentioned.

Mr Jain claimed that pandemic was under control in the neighbouring cities.

Clarifying the order issued to private hospitals on schedule of costs and if any deliberate capping by authorities are necessary, he mentioned, “We are going to first examine the schedule of charges that we have asked from hospitals.”

In an order issued to all private hospitals admiiting patients suffering from COVID-19 , the Delhi authorities has requested them to supply their schedule of costs for therapy of the virus to the Directorate General of Health companies, Delhi, and a copy  to be displayed at conspicuous locations of their hospitals.

“While beds at some private hospitals may be exhausted, no complaint has come about any shortage of beds at our hospitals like LNJP Hospital, GTB Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, Ms Preeti Sudan, Union Health Secretary held a review meeting with the District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners, Chief Medical Officers, Superintendent of District Hospitals and Principles of Medical Colleges from 45 municipalities/municipal corporations across 38 districts in ten states, that are witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases. These districts are from the following States/UTs: Maharashtra, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Uttarakhand& Madhya Pradesh.

Main issues discussed were the widespread infection in densely populated urban areas, with areas that shared public amenities; importance of house-to-house surveys; prompt testing followed by prompt isolation and clinical management of cases and containment strategy to be implemented.

Areas that need constant attention included active house-to-house survey for timely detection; augmentation of the survey teams; efficient ambulance management; efficient triaging of patients at the hospitals and bed management; clinical management of the hospitalised cases through rotational 24*7 teams to ensure reduction in the fatality rates.
