Maharashtra has sudden spike of cases as the unlockdown 4 happens

Maharashtra reports 23, 350 COVID-19 cases in single day, total cases surge to 9,07,212 . The toll in the state reached 26604 after 328 fresh fatalities were reported in the day, the official said. The number of discharged patients in the state stands at 6,44,400, while there are 2,35,857 active patients. The number of tests is 4647742, he added. 

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a review meeting with Mumbai civic body top officials directed to prioritise contact tracing and use other methods to prevent a further rise in Covid-19 cases in metropolis. Meanwhile, to prevent deaths due to corona across Maharashtra, the state health department is mulling over the expansion of its TeleICU project.


Maharashtra CM Thackeray directed the city administration to increase testing and asked officials to refrain from attributing the rise in cases to the same. Thackeray also ordered buildings with more than 10 cases to be sealed.

The chief minister urged the civic body to take measures to help boost public confidence in the BMC’s Covid care centres. He reiterated that patients above 50 years who have no comorbidities should be quarantined at home.

Meanwhile, the death rate in the city has reduced to 2.6 per cent in September from 5.58 per cent in June. Meanwhile, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope today launched three more TeleICU services in hospitals in Aurangabad, Jalna and Solapur. He stated that treatment of critically ill corona patients under expert guidance from TeleICUs will help reduce Covid-19 mortality rate in the state.

Maharashtra reported the fastest growth is Coronavirus infection in August, registering over 3.70 lakh cases. According to data of the Maharashtra health department, the state reported 3,76,587 COVID-19 cases last month, 2,41,820 cases in July and 1,04,748 cases in June.

On August 1, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state was 4,31,719, which jumped to 8,08,306 on September 1. This is probably the fastest growth of cases in the state since January. One of the reasons for the growth in the number of positive cases is the increased number of tests. Last month, the state carried out 20,16,809 tests.

The number of tests conducted till August 1 was 21,94,943, which rose to 42,11,752 on September 1. The state has started aggressive testing which is helping in detection of the infected people. Between August 1 and 5, the number of COVID-19 cases rose by 36,546, and between September 1 and 5, the number went up by 75,556. Besides, the state reported 15,316 deaths due to the disease till August 1 and the number went up to 24,903 on September 1, as per the data.
