J K Lone equipments defunct with acute shortage of staff : says a report by hospital authorities

Initial report goes astray as 50% of equipmnets of JK Lon proves to be non-funtional

Paediatric Department of J K LONE hospital, Kota has recently confirmed that out of 19 ventilators only 13 are properly functioning as per a detailed report that was submitted to the Principal, Government Medical College, Kota on 27th December. Total 213 equipments are working out of 533. Basic types of equipment like X-ray machine, ABG machines and life-saving equipment like warmer, nebulisers were also not functional. The hospital also stated that neo-natal care unit is extremely short-staffed with only 20 people with 42 beds. Health Ministry guideline recommends 20 staff per 12 bed.  This report was tabled after in a major public health disaster at least 77 children admitted in J K Lone hospital in Rajasthan’s Kota had died in the month of December Of the total, 10 deaths have been reported in the last 48 hours.

A committee formed by the hospital to investigate the deaths came out with an initial report which ruled out negligence by stating that the equipment needed to treat patients were working properly.
