Responding to the state medical department’s call to non-public doctors to report for COVID duty, a complete of 1,172 private practitioners have stepped up to supply their services. they need even said that they're willing to figure in any facility that they're assigned to as they need to ‘save the town and save the nation’.

Reported that the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had sent a notification to 25,000 private practitioners within the city to hitch within the fight against COVID-19, invoking the Epidemic Diseases Act, the Disaster Management Act, and therefore the Maharashtra Essential Service Maintenance (Amendment) Act.

The doctors had been told that they need to spend a minimum of 15 days at the power they're assigned to. It also warned doctors who refused to return on board that action might be taken against them, including the revocation of a licence to practice.

All doctors are required to submit a form during which they need to specify their qualification, the Maharashtra Medical Council license number, current work location, and their choice of location for posting.

Dr TP Lahane, director of DMER said that thus far 7,000 doctors had responded, of whom 1,172 doctors, all below the age of 35 had said they might willingly add Covid-19 facilities. Others cited reasons why they might not wish to take up such assignments. Some said they're treating non-COVID patients, while others cited medical conditions.

The civic body has started assigning the willing doctors their duties, which they're going to take up from Monday onwards. Dr Lahane said that fifty doctors each are going to be posted at SevenHills, Sion hospital, trauma hospital, Kurla and Bhabha hospitals. Some doctors also will be posted at isolation facilities created by the BMC.

Sion hospital dean Dr Ramesh Bharmal said that they're increasing the Covid-19 beds at the hospital by 200 then more manpower is required.

Dr Lahane clarified that doctors with MBBS degrees would be paid Rs 80,000 and people with MD/MS degrees Rs 1 lakh. Intensivists would get Rs 1.5 lakh. Duties would be allotted as per their choice. “We hope more doctors to hitch soon,” he was quoted as saying.

Many private doctors had shut their clinics after Mumbai emerged because of the hotspot of Covid-19 in India. Many others who continued to practice refused to look at patients with Covid-19 symptoms like fever, cough, or breathlessness. They directed such patients to the fever clinics in their localities.
